Core Courses At the heart of Little Mountain lie it's core courses. These cater towards both ESL and non-ESL students, and cover a wide range of disciplines. Many ESL students join our Integrated English course, which provides students with an interesting academically sound curriulum that helps students improve their speaking and listening, reading and writing skills together. The Think Tank provides high school students with a variety of volunteer opportunities, and class time discusses meaningful content. Our Journalism course allows students to get a glimpse into the world of publishing and helps build collaborative skills. Reading ClubThe Little Mountain Reading Club motivates young people to get their nose into a good book. With computer tests from RenLearn the students are quickly able to assess their overall comprehension of the story, while more in depth analysis of the stories occurs with 1:1 interviews with teachers. Vocabulary Builder'sMany ESL students, whether recent immigrants or seasoned Canadians, need to improve on their vocabulary. Little Mountain's Vocabulary Builders is a multilevel course baed on the Wordly Wise 3000 textbook series. Little Mountain offers young students with the opportunity to learn how to read. Starting from the very basics, LMCA uses the Frontline Phonics series to systematically build up students' phonemic awareness, sound blending abilities, and ultimately how to read.
